If you are thinking about doing a juice cleanse or have purchased one - congratulations! We are here to make sure your experience is as enjoyable as possible. To get your going, here are a few good tips to get your started - good luck from all of us at Superfluid!
To prepare for your cleanse we recommend making a few (non-mandatory) moves to help you ease into it. This preparation will ensure you maximise the health benefits of your cleanse and may even help keep some of those nasty detox symptoms at bay. Start by removing any temptations; sweets, alcohol, coffee, processed ‘grab and go’ style foods from your kitchen. Start (if you don't already) to drink plenty of water aiming for 1-2 litres per day. If you usually drink more than one cup of coffee a day try weaning yourself back to one or none if possible. Prepare meals that are made from fresh ingredients and begin to reduce your intake of bread, preservatives, dairy, sugar, fast food, soft drink, alcohol and non prescriptive medicine.
We suggest if possible, that you try to take things easy or easier during the cleanse period. Treat your cleanse as a retreat or holiday for your body and mind, try to avoid any non essential activities, be less social, less on social media and try to take more time than normal to focus on your individual needs.
You may feel at times, you are tired and have less energy embrace it - have a rest, a power nap, sit in a chair and close your eyes for a few minutes or do a mini meditation. If you are feeling extremely lethargic and need to keep working and do not have the hack pack to help out - have 1 or 2 cups of green tea or have a Yerba Mate tea to pick your energy levels up.
Make it a priority to have early nights and gain a few more hours of sleep than usual. Do things that are relaxing and nurturing, take a gentle walk, have a massage and try to end each day with a bath in Epsom salts.
Gentle walking, light yoga (no inversions), massages, dry skin brushing and saunas (infrared if possible) are all ways to keep your lymphatic system activated. Our lymphatic system is responsible for pumping blood around our body and moving toxins out to the elimination organs. For this reason whenever you feel your detox symptoms coming on, or they are particularly strong it’s a good idea to get moving and go for a light walk, drinks lots of water to keep the lymphatic system flushing.
Drinking a juice every 2-3 hours (or sipping it slowly over an hour, ideally with added psyllium and bentonite) is a good way to keep your blood sugar stable preventing it from crashing, thus triggering the ‘feeling’ of hunger.
Aim to drink 2-3 litres of water per day, this will continue to flush the toxins out and make the 'hacks' more effective.
Anytime you’re feeling nauseous or that the detox symptoms are particularly bad, have a shot of the Green Doctor or some form of Chlorophyll, this will help neutralise toxins and make the symptoms ease off faster.
The Superfluid Hack Pack has all the 'hacks' to upgrade and optimise your cleanse. It will intensify your cleanse and will assist in reducing some of the common symptoms associated to detox.
If you have not purchased a Hack Pack, high doses of a magnesium powder will help to alleviate some of the muscle cramps, body-aches and headaches that are associated to withdrawal from coffee, sugar, food preservatives processed foods and other stimulants. Soaking in a hot bath with Epsom salts will help a muscular aches and pains.
If caffeine is your vice and you didn’t cut back or wean your way off it prior to the cleanse chances are you are going to have really strong withdrawal headaches - likely around day two. If you find you can’t cope drink some green tea throughout the mid morning and mid afternoon to help get you through. If this does not move the headache along and you feel you really need a coffee hit you can (if you really, really have to) have one or two sips of a black coffee only (avoid any dairy or sugar) and this should reduce symptoms quickly. This is a one-off cheat.
While it is best not to add gas to our system whilst detoxing, a cold glass of sparkling water with ice and lime may feel like a treat. Add Schizandra to boost your mood whilst pretending it’s a pink cocktail!
Raw cacao has many mood and metabolism enhancing properties, which is why we have added Choccy Mylk to most of our cleanses. If you feel like you need more of a sweet hit, add some raw cacao (up to 3 heaped teaspoons) to a cup of hot water and up to a teaspoon of coconut oil - you can also add cinnamon and cayenne pepper for a spice kick.
Dry skin brushing is great to detox the largest organ in your body, your skin. Dry skin brushing boosts the lymphatic system which is responsible for moving the toxins and blood around and out of our body.
Infrared saunas are great for accelerating the detox process and alleviating the detox symptoms through sweating the toxins out through your skin. Infrared saunas also help to remove heavy metals and toxins stored in your organs.
Colonics are another fantastic way to speed up the detoxification process and alleviate some of the symptoms. All the toxins we are releasing from our body are being removed by our urine, sweat, breath, but mostly through our bowels. Colonics ensure all the toxins that are being eliminated to our bowels are removed and that there is room for more and more toxins to be released to our bowels rather than back logging them or storing them in other organs the body. Our bowels are the rubbish bin of our body, and like our rubbish bins once they are full they need to be emptied. If our household bin is full we often pile up excess rubbish around the sides of it and on top on it as there is no more room in the bin. This happens to our bodies too, the rubbish piles up on top and around in other organs of the body like the liver and the kidneys until there is room for them in the bowels and this could possibly affect the functioning of the other organs.
Upon completion of your cleanse solid food can be re-introduced but slowly! Be kind to your digestive system and continue to drink juice and water each day. Start by incorporating fresh leafy greens, soups and vegetables back into your diet. By easing back into your ‘eating’ routine you will continue to feel the positive effects of your cleanse. Keep your portions moderate and avoid over consumption. Try taking your time and really appreciate each bite. We highly recommend avoiding the post cleanse food binge. Binging on foods that are highly processed and full of preservatives and sugar can shock your digestive system. By putting these foods back into your body, you will likely feel tired, bloated, cramped and you will quickly undo all the good work you just completed. So do your best and be gentle on yourself and your body - ease back into eating in the healthiest way you can.
